3 Quotes, 3 Days: Day Three

The Challenge: Post three quotes and nominate three people a day to the challenge, for three days.

Today I offer three
from J. R. R. Tolkien. I was first introduced to Mr. Tolkien’s most famous work, The Hobbit and the Lord of the Rings trilogy, in the early 1980s. It was my first winter in Round Valley, in the Arizona mountains. The wind blew constantly, the temperatures always way below my Central California Coastal blood could handle, and the house in which I lived had only a Franklin Stove stoked with wood to keep it warm. In the evenings, wrapped in a blanket, I sat by the fire reading and enjoying every word, every new twist in the story, and the characters. Who can not love the Messiah-like Aragorn or the innocent-minded Hobbits? When the movies came out, I immediately picked up copies, and said I wouldn’t start viewing them until all were out. I was preparing for a marathon run. I was not disappointed, either. Incredibly, the movies stayed close to the books.

As an aside, I have a tee-shirt that says on it All Who Wander are not Lost. It is a favorite of mine.
