Flowers Grow in the Desert

“And the child grew and became strong in spirit and was in the deserts until the day of his showing to Israel.”(Luke 1:80 MKJV)

A few weeks ago we celebrated Succoth, also known as the Feast of Tabernacles. Jewish people, along with Messianic Jews (who are also believers in Y’shuaJesus) remember and celebrate forty years of desert wandering after the exodus from Egypt. There are Christians who celebrate Continue reading “Flowers Grow in the Desert”

It used to be easy. . .

. . . or at least it seems so. Identity. That is today’s writing prompt. Let me share what I think, what I know—probably it will be mostly a lot of what I think I know.

I remember when I was in college in the sixties and suppose to write a paper for a psychology class. Who am I? was the title. I got a “A” on it. I wrote about who I was physiologically, intellectually, and emotionally. Despite the grade on a great paper, I really had no clue who I was. The sixties were confusing times. For previous generations, it seemed one’s identity seemed to be set before them, like a Continue reading “It used to be easy. . .”

Thinking that. . .

. . . by the lovingkindness of the G-D of Israel, we who trust in Y’shuaJesus, have come through crisis to deliverance, and await our place in His Rest.

He came to the podium to address a large group of seminary students. He was older at the time, and stood tottering, grasping the podium to steady himself. He looked out at the audience and began to sing, “Jesus love me. This I know. The Bible tells me so.” His voice cracked. He continued to sing, Continue reading “I Love to Tell the Story”

Caedmon’s Hymn

Now must we praise the Guardian of Heaven;
The might of the Lord and His wisdom of mind;
The work o the Father of Glory, make of all wonders;
He, Holy Creator, first fashioned Heaven
As a roof for the sons of men;
Then the eternal Guardian of mankind
Adorned the earth below, a land for men;
Almighty King and everlasting LORD.

Memorial to Cædmon, St Mary’s Churchyard, Whitby. The inscription reads, “To the glory of God and in memory of Cædmon the father of English Sacred Song. Fell asleep hard by, 680.”

Caedmon, monk and poet, in the 7th Century double monastery (both monks and nuns) of Streonæshalch, overlooking the North Sea on the East Cliff above Whitby in North Yorkshire, England.
