Fugit Irreparabile Tempus.
It escapes, irretrievable time.
“Time is like an ebbing tide upon a beach, you cannot see it move by starring at it, but soon it has run away from sight.” (From a Celtic Prayer)
The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God is at hand; repent and believe in the gospel. (Mark 1:15)
Y’shuaJesus launched his ministry in Israel with that statement. It came after John was arrested. The John that baptized in the Jordon and said he was a voice crying in the wilderness. Matthew Henry, in his commentaries, points out that when one ministry finished, another begins. Pastor Henry also points out that:
“Christ gave them to understand the times, that they might know what Israel ought to do; they fondly expected the Messiah to appear in external pomp and power, not only to free the Jewish nation from the Roman yoke, but to make it have dominion over all its neighbours, and therefore thought, when that kingdom of God was at hand, they must prepare for war, and for victory and preferment, and great things in the world; but Christ tells them, in the prospect of that kingdom approaching, they must repent, and believe the gospel.”
Y’shuaJesus. Lamb. Lion. Almost like there is two saviors. One born in a cradle and preached love G-D and love neighbor and everything will be all right. The other comes with a sword and fire in His eyes. Which Jesus do you expect to come? Which savior does your church preach?
Now is the time.
We know the Lamb of G-D. Let us prepare for the Lion of Judah.
Now is also the time to say something nice to someone you don’t like. It’s time to set aside bickering. Children are wonderful. Children also bicker. Ever seen it? Don’t you just want to say, “G R O W U P !”
Now is the time.
Now is the time to set aside some time to just read the Bible, to spend a moment in silence listening for G-D to speak.
Now is the time to look into the eyes of a stranger and simply smile and acknowledge the presence of a real person. Validate humanity. A man at the church I’ve been attending one of the greeters makes a habit of greeting people wherever he goes. Strangers are no longer strangers.
Now is the time.
Now is the time to bury hatchets before parting company, even if for a day. Husband and Wife bickering in the morning. They each leave the house for their jobs. Will they both return that evening? What do you want to remember as the last thing you say to someone, especially someone that you normally care about? Do you want to remember the bickering or the kiss goodbye?
Now is the time. Tempus Fugit. Time Flies. Like a wisp os smoke are our lives. Like a wisp of smoke rising toward the sky.
May mercy, peace, and love be multiplied to you.
(Jude 1)
